Smart Mouths #52: Coming Out
by Penny on Mar.09, 2010, under Episodes
We’ve got good news and bad news. Good news is that Laura was on this episode!!! Bad news is that she was only on for around two minutes because her Costa Rican internet connections sucks and her skype stopped working. Oh well. We truly valued her insight, wisdom and contribution for those first two minutes of the show.
In any event, it was a great show! In this episode:
-We talked Oscars and one of us comes out of a proverbial closet.
-Senator Ashburn from California is gay. We don’t care. We just wish he didn’t either.
-There were Elections in Iraq! They actually have good excuses when they don’t turn out to vote.
-Betty White to appear on SNL. YES!
-Reconciliation. Wazzat?
-Lil Wayne going to jail.
-Backwash on Austria, Animals in Captivity and the Tsunami (or lack thereof)
-Dr. Smart Mouths makes its return!
-Sad to say, Penny tried to do take over WTF news. You’ll all be happy when Micah returns next time.

Smart Mouths Episode #51: Let’s Play A Game
by Penny on Mar.01, 2010, under Episodes
Wow, was this week chock full of news OR WHAT? Luckily we have a NEWS podcast to talk about this stuff, otherwise we would have had to find a way to relate these stories to Harry Potter or Twilight and let’s face it. That would have been tough. Luckily for Andrew, Elysa, Greg, Matt and Micah they had a venue to discuss the excitement of the past week.
In this episode:
-Listen to the Smart Mouths Book Club episode!
-The Smart Mouths are really sad about the deadly Orca Whale attack in Sea World. Everyone has issues with the treatment of animals, but Andrew will be happy to go to Sea World for free if you can get him in.
-Health Care Summit. Republican key words are…key.
-Chil-AY Earthquake and Ha-Wa-II Tsunami
-Olympics Redux. Mostly talk on the USA/Canada Hockey Game (We begrudgingly congratulate the Canadians on their win. There, we said it.)
-Whats the deal with American Idol this season?
-Backwash tackles our criticism of Michael Phelps, webcamgate, and a nice note from a listener.
-We gooooogle that shiz again.
-WTF News is still messed up. What else can we say?

In this episode:

In the recommendations, Penny requested that you all vote for the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation in the Chase Giving Campaign on Facebook. Please read the following letter from one of our longtime listeners that helps explain why this is so important:
Dear Smart Mouths: I am an original, longtime listener. I love you all, and appreciate your company each week during one of my many (now infamous on Twitter) 3-mile runs. I’m writing to plead with you and your listeners to support an important cause.
Beginning Friday 1/15 and ending 1/23, every Facebook user has 5 votes in the Chase Community Giving campaign. My request is for all of you to participate in this contest and consider spending a vote on the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation. Gwendolyn is two years old, lives in Santa Barbara, and suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which is a terminal disease. My twins suffer from the same disease, and the foundation which her parents have created is committed to raising money to fund research for a cure.
The majority of babies with SMA die before they turn two years old. I don’t know how I’ve been so lucky that both of my twins have beaten those odds, but I will do anything to help find a cure. The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation is a grass roots effort to raise awareness and find a cure. They’ve already made it into the final round of the Chase Community Giving campaign, and can use every single vote from all of your listeners.
It’s not too late. My babies still have a chance at normal lives. Plus? They’re super smart and cute. Follow my blog at bahamasbahamasbahamas.blogspot.com, or visit www.gwendolynstrongfoundation.com/chase for more info on SMA and the Chase Community Giving campaign.
