Have any of you checked out the links from the articles you post? There’s one on msnbc that is extremely weird. A man is suing for- get this- $1 in damages over a police officer allegedly harassing him and threatening arrest for wearing a skirt to municipal court.

was wondering if you guys have heard of podio books(or podcast novels). I just got though listining to a few. Itunes has a lot of good ones. they are really entertaining. Scott Sigler and J. C. Hutchins to name a couple have some of the best. They are just like audiobooks but released as an episode. The authors are tring to get there storys out and they are free. Some of the authors have got their novels to print which os their main goal. just thought it was something that you guys might think is interesting. Later love the show

Oh seriously… what kind of kids are mailing in? How much politically correctness do people demand? You cant use any words any more… Retards.
May 13th, 2009 on 9:41 PM
i think its very nice that you guys on the show are going to try to stop using the word retarded. my friend has a brother with down syndrome & she gets very angry when people just throw the word around. on the other hand, i completely disagreed with what you all said about this weeks political discussion about the 89 year old former nazi. i don’t seriously care about how many years have passed since the war. he still did what he did. he led thousands of innocent of people to thier death for no reason other than them not being aryan race. on a more personal note, i have two aunts, one uncle, & a grandfather who died in camps in poland. for all you know, Demjanuk led them to the gas chambers to die. so yes, i say this man gets what he deserves. time passing by can’t change what a person did.

Just thought I’d add a note that there’s about 5 minutes of absolute silence at the end of the podcast. Not that I mind, just I thought you guys would want to know… Great show this week, guys!
Christian, I agree. If a word offends you that’s your problem, you’re never going to stop certain words being thrown around. Language is language, if you take whatever somebody says personally, that’s your deal. Though, I think it was very nice for the Smart Mouths to recognize the issues with the words and do something about it, I think this is an issue for those who take offense from it to deal with. I mean, personally, I try not to use words like gay and retarded, because I understand these problems other people have with it, (I also try not to swear much – I mean, the more you swear, the less meaning it has) and I suppose I’m being a bit of a hypocrite, but sometimes I say words and they just slip out (doesn’t everyone?)
I mean, I have friends who take offense from certain words and I keep this in mind when I’m talking to them and don’t say it, I’m not going to start swearing to prove a point, I do respect other people’s wishes, but Smart Mouths has hundreds of listeners and it’s an EXPLICIT podcast for goodness sakes… There’s bound to be some language people don’t agree with.
Though, yeah, it’s really thoughtful of the Smart Mouths to read these emails and show they care… They hardly ever swear actually compared to some people I know who say fuck about every second word. Thankfully, I’m not friends with these people, because it’s the most annoying shit in the world.
Wow, I’m a genius at contradicting myself. And I repeated myself about a thousand times! Oh boy!
Hopefully you guys get what I’m saying though. =) Keep up the great work with the show.

Even if the holocaust was ‘a life time ago’ (I agree with that) but survivors still deserve justice, and if there is enough evidence then he should be charged and sentenced. How much time has passed should never matter, especially with mass murders.
I can see, how you would think that, you probably don’t have so much family that survived the war, or fought in it as Europeans, and here, WW2 is still an issue. You probably don’t hear about ‘how hard it was’ etc. every family dinner.
Anyway, I’m ranting here, like I’ve said, in my country there are issues with some facts.
I say, let him rot in jail for as long as he lives, it’s long over due.

Just a followup to the Snake in the Brocoli story. I live right new where that happened so the news has been quite on this story. It was determined that the snake head was placed in the food after it was cooked/prepared. The head itself was examined by a state lab and was found not to have been cooked. They have started an investigation into food tampering.

Hullo! The show was amazing as always<3
Just a quick thing, but I dont think anyone should mind if someone uses the word ‘retarded’ I use it more than three time every day. I cant help my self, sometimes there just is no other word that describes the situation besides ‘retard’ And its not like anyone does it on purpose to make fun of any one mentally disabled. Its just the equivalent of stupid. So there. I’m sorry if this offends anyone though it shouldnt but ‘retard’ is just part of my vocabulary. Anyways, Penny you did an awesome job with the Political Bitches and I hate/dislike Oprah as well, and Im gonna miss Andrew and Matt on the next episode. Oh well:) <3

Hey! I’m actually in the middle of listening to this episode right now, and I’m at the part where you’re talking about the 89 year old German man who is going to be tried for war crimes. I could go on and on about my opinion on this topic, but I’m going to keep it short and sweet and just tell you that you should watch the movie Escape From Sobibor, about the Nazi death camp of the same name. I think it’ll change your minds, and even if it doesn’t, it will make you think.
Love the show!

Ohh. The Orangutan story is from where I live
Adelaide pride
Good show by the way. I miss having more hosts though… keep up the good work.

Great show guys! Just total nit-picky thing I feel like I need to say since I’m an anthropologist: an orangutan is not a monkey, it’s an ape. Monkeys have tails and apes don’t
.
As far as the 89 year old German goes… we have no idea whether or not this man feels guilt for what he did. Many of those who actively participated in the death and inhumane treatment of Jews and other “inferior” races during the Holocaust were never brought to justice, or got a slap on the wrist in exchange for giving information. Let me use an example of delayed justice to put it into perspective:
Civil rights leader Medgar Evers was shot by Byron de La Beckwith in his driveway on June 12, 1963. When Byron went to trial, the jury deadlocked twice and he was not convicted of the murder. The jury was 12 white men, and while it was generally assumed within the community that Beckwith did it, Mississippi was not a bastion of racial tolerance at the time. Beckwith was what many referred to as “a good ol’ boy”: a southern term meaning his family was well-known and established in the area, and usually implies that the person can get away with things. Only 30 years later in 1994, when new evidence was discovered, was Beckwith able to be retried and convicted.
Most people in the US were in support of the retrial, especially those who knew Medgar or were involved in the civil rights movement in the 60’s. I imagine the smartmouths hosts would support this retrial. Now, I’m not saying this to sound self-righteous, simply to prove a point that Americans are much more removed from WWII and the Holocaust than our own civil rights movement. It’s easier for us to think the Germans should let sleeping dogs lie but support the retrial of Beckwith if we never had Nazis march though our streets, but we did have KKK members burn crosses on front lawns. I don’t believe we have any right to tell those who lost family members because of the Nazi regime to “get over it”. Whether this man has a great sense of regret of not, it sets a bad example that if it happened “x” number of years ago, it no longer matters.
I say this specifically to Andrew since he seemed to feel sympathy for the man: while I approve of your sentiment of forgiveness you should never, ever tell anyone who’s a victim of a violent crime, whether one year ago or fifty, to “let it go”. Those who have been wronged can forgive on their own time, but I fear for a country that can pardon acts of genocide simply because it’s taken to long to properly prosecute a person.

Hey since Micah seems to be the big sports fan on Smart Mouths a good topic for him next week would be to discuss Michael Vick. Whether or not he deserves to play football again, and about all the dissapointed fans who say that they won’t be buying season tickets to whatever team he is going to play for.(Browns maybe?)
Keep up the good work guys your show is one of the highlights of my week. =)

Today I had the privilage of hearing a Holocast survivor speak and tell his story. It was amazing that he survived and I can’t even begin to imagine the pain he’s gone through. I believe that the man (don’t remember his name) should definately be put in jail. He has tortured and killed thousands of people and needs to be put on trial. He has caused so much pain, which he needs to take responsibility for. Thanks.

Just adding my two cents on the Nazi criminal trial. At some point these trials will end because that generation who were involved in WWII will have all passed on. But until that happens, the survivors of those camps have the right to see justice. Yes, it might seem a little late, 60 years, but to many people died and it is our responsibility to see that they are not forgotten. If that means bringing a suspected Nazi guard to trial, then so be it.
