In the recommendations, Penny requested that you all vote for the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation in the Chase Giving Campaign on Facebook. Please read the following letter from one of our longtime listeners that helps explain why this is so important:
Dear Smart Mouths: I am an original, longtime listener. I love you all, and appreciate your company each week during one of my many (now infamous on Twitter) 3-mile runs. I’m writing to plead with you and your listeners to support an important cause.
Beginning Friday 1/15 and ending 1/23, every Facebook user has 5 votes in the Chase Community Giving campaign. My request is for all of you to participate in this contest and consider spending a vote on the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation. Gwendolyn is two years old, lives in Santa Barbara, and suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which is a terminal disease. My twins suffer from the same disease, and the foundation which her parents have created is committed to raising money to fund research for a cure.
The majority of babies with SMA die before they turn two years old. I don’t know how I’ve been so lucky that both of my twins have beaten those odds, but I will do anything to help find a cure. The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation is a grass roots effort to raise awareness and find a cure. They’ve already made it into the final round of the Chase Community Giving campaign, and can use every single vote from all of your listeners.
It’s not too late. My babies still have a chance at normal lives. Plus? They’re super smart and cute. Follow my blog at bahamasbahamasbahamas.blogspot.com, or visit www.gwendolynstrongfoundation.com/chase for more info on SMA and the Chase Community Giving campaign.

Can’t wait to listen! I have a question for Elysa (and Laura, if she can read this): What exactly IS Prop 8? I must sound really dumb, but I’m not as informed on political issues as I’d like to be.
Thanks,
Steven
(P.S.: I’m hoping for another episode like episode 26, but on Prop

Steven-> Prop 8 is the law passed in California to remove Gay Marriage. It has been called Unconstitutional, if I am correct.

I knew a baby with SMA, and he recently died at the age of 2. I just wanted to say that I completely support this cause, and I am glad that you brought attention to this on the show.

Thanks for drawing attention to that charity campaign, what a fantastic cause!
Also, I was glad to hear the feedback I gave you last time being put to work, even though you didn’t mention my comment I was pleased to hear that email and some of the other stuff. I’m off to find you some UK news stories in a bit
I’m suprised you didn’t spend more time on the Haiti earthquake, although I appreciate that you had a busy show, and that you did highlight ways to donate. I do have a question though – can people in the UK donate using that text number, or only in the USA? The Red Cross site isn’t too clear about it.

Hey just thought I would pipe in as a moderate republican listener, I do agree with Elysa, all of the mainstream republicans recently have been kinda douche’s. When Palin first hit the seen I really liked her, then it seemed like the campaign managers screwed her over, but now she really does seem like a beauty queen. All well, Romney hasn’t made a complete twat of himself yet, too bad he’s Mormon, he’ll never get elected (I’m also Mormon, but I’m a realist).

I wanted to let you and your listeners know about another way to donate to Haitian relief. Ravelry is a knitting and crochet website and any of you who are members can buy patterns that a percentage of the profits go to either the Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders. DWB is a very popular charity in the fiber community and it’s headquarters in Haiti was destroyed in the earthquake. I imagine that there are also groups collecting clothing or other items for the people in need.
I love you guys. I hope you’re all doing well. Micah, your voice is awesome sexy.

Hey, I think there’s something wrong with the download link. I downloads really fast and I end up with a very small file (1,5 kb) and it won’t play on my mp3 player or my windows media player. Can you do something to fix it? Oh, and as someone said above, iTunes isn’t working either.
