I really enjoyed your Facebook/Twitter discussion, you covered a lot, however, it would have been nice to have heard about the Facebook page from the perspective of somebody who didn’t totally hate it or think it was stupid (if that was possible… I don’t think *everybody* hates it – though I suppose it’s the majority). I also think it’s sad how Facebook seems to have changed to COMPETE with Twitter! This annoys me because it’s just like the Harry Potter VS Twilight thing – they’re two different things! Why can’t people just accept their differences, and move on?
Oh and, when you guys where talking about Twitter, you got me curious and I joined WHILST listening to the show!
I also honestly thought that Andrew had the OCD problem because quite a few people I know have a few quirks which are seem quite Obsessive-Compulsive, myself included!
I also think it’s kind of funny how Penny went off at Mickey Mouse… kind of because I can relate – not that I beat up a suited man but those people in costumes are intimidating. In my opinion anyway.
I’m just half way through the Two Truths and a Lie segment so I’ll finish the rest of the show and write another comment later.
Also, congrats for the most girls on the show ever! I was wondering when it was going to happen.
March 24th, 2009 on 2:09 AM
My bad, it was Elysa who went off at Mickey, not Penny! I should pay more attention – I got confused because your voices sound similar… Sorry!
March 24th, 2009 on 3:23 AM
Okay, so now I’ve finished the episode, and Smart Mouths – I’m sorry for clogging your comments page.
Also, Elysa and Penny really sound quite different so I’m sorry – I was just an idiot.
Backtracking to the Round Up with Obama’s slip up, I didn’t understand what he actually said because you guys didn’t say it, so that was confusing.
However, I just read the newspaper properly for the first time in my life (instead of reading an article I saw my mum/dad reading that caught my eye) and I read about the Obama bowling comment, and I also found an article about the Pope’s comment about condoms aggravating the AIDS problem – which is absolutely ridiculous – you guys all covered it.
I also read a number of other things, one article in particular which I think would be interesting (though maybe a bit redundant since we know your views already) on similar topics concerning the media.
I read in the Sun-Herald about men’s eating disorders being record levels in Australia: http://www.smh.com.au/national/mens-eating-disorders-hit-record-levels-20090321-94yl.html
I think it’s depressing how insecure people are becoming about their appearances – obesity, anorexia and other eating disorders are increasing and part of the reason is because of the pressure the media puts on people – of course, no doubt, that’s not the only reason; bullying and abuse is another sad part of it.
There was also an article about schools giving students who get over 97% in their UAI, $3000. http://www.smh.com.au/national/get-97-in-hsc-and-well-give-you-3000-school-20090321-94ye.html
Instead of using this money to motivate students (the money should be used to go towards uni), shouldn’t the money be used towards more important things? Not that student motivation isn’t important, it’s just there are other ways to do it.
I hope I don’t get in trouble for putting up links in the comments, but I think it’s necessary.
Also, the penis festival reminds me a lot of this web-comic I read called Girls with Slingshots, the girl characters in this comic strip make a club for celebrating and appreciating their genitalia. The maker of the comic has shirts on sale called Happy Vagina shirts and they come in pink and grey with a cartoon of their genitalia with a smiling face on the clitoris, and arms and feet extending out of its “body”.
Here’s a link to the comic: http://www.daniellecorsetto.com/gws.html, and here’s a link to a picture of the grey shirt! http://static0.shopify.com/s/files/1/0022/0672/products/gws-greyvag480_large.gif?1236114869
I hope you find my input useful! Keep up the great work!

I really liked the old Facebook with all the fun little applications that Myspace is now trying to copy. Facebook should be trying to compete with Myspace, not Twitter. I hate all the changes they are making. Its confusing and harder to use now.
I worked for the airlines. They were all suffering financially even before the current recession. It is a really bad time to fly. There have been tons of layoffs and the turnover rate is ridiculous. The ground grew (Ramp Agents, Fuelers, ect) frequently pull double shifts (16 hours straight) and mistakes are bound to happen. I found a flier in the pilot’s break room that was talking about substance abuse within the trade. It really shocked me how prevalent it was. A year ago a man was run over and killed by a street cleaner working the ramp area (they drive really fast and don’t watch what they are doing) and just recently a plane run off the runway here at DIA and fortunately nobody was injured. I’ll say it again…Its a really bad time to fly. Corners are being cut and people are being overworked. Its also unnerving that the turnover rate for some ramp agents is as bad as the fast food industry.
I watched Obama’s appearance on Jay Leno. I actually thought he did a good job and he seemed funny and down to Earth. I realize on some level his comment could be seen as insensitive, but I really do not think he meant it in a malicious way. He was literally making fun of himself and picked a bad example. I have mild Autism myself.
Russia is in a terrible situation. The Kremlin controls the media and if you remember back there were several assassinations on people who were openly critical of the Kremlin. One man who fled to the UK was poisoned. If you’ve ever been to Russia you know how little rights you have. In the US you might get away with questioning authority but never, ever try it in Russia. They cops will literally beat the crap out of you and have you arrested. They don’t give a rat’s backside if your an American. If you want the scary reality I saw some cops hitting street children at a train station, yes hitting street children! I think people are afraid of standing up to the Russian Regime.
Condoms are not 100% effective against AIDS but its proven to lower the risk of contraction. I agree with you that in places like Africa, condoms can lower the spread of AIDS. Some people however are complacent and do not realize they can still get AIDS while using a condom. I can see a little of the Pope’s stance, but definitely not in third world countries. Lets face it people are going to have sex and its at least a good idea to have some protection against the spread of HIV. I wish there was more research being done on the individuals in Africa who have actually developed an immunity to the effects of HIV (usually prostitutes).
The typical portrayal of a “John” is someone who has wife and kids at home and is out to cheat on his wife with a hooker. Thats not always the case. I know its creepy to think about our mom trying to find someone for us to have sex with, but the young man with Down Syndrome is unlikely to do it on his own. He is a person and he has the same needs as everyone else. As even a high functioning Autistic as my self can attest its impossible to find a significant other for many of us. I guess you could debate whether or not prostitution should be legalized at the same time. In the US its up to the states to decide and almost all of them have banned it (Except for Nevada and Rhode Island). Mexico has zones of tolerance, Australia has legal brothels (So does New Zealand) and many places in Europe have legalized it. You could tie this back into the condom debate as well. Much of the research shows that legalization and required testing actually lowers the rate of infections among sex workers significantly. It also allows woman to be free from pimps and get off the street. I know its hard for some people to believe but some of the woman in the trade actually like what they do and some of them are genuinely good people. I just think there should be a legal outlet for people to have sex that cant otherwise find a partner. People want to look down on us but we aren’t people out raping woman or molesting children. If its between two consenting adults why not allow it with reasonable restrictions?

I also wanted to bring up a story from Australia about a rural doctor being deported back to Germany because his son has Down Syndrome. The biggest problem is he is gravely needed in the rural community in which he works. Like all western countries Australia needs doctors just as bad as the US and its ridiculous to deport one just because his son has a disability.

Michael Jackson wants to adopt a kid? Wow. I really hope they don’t allow it. After all hes been accused of molestation not once but twice.

Hey CJ, that doctor and his son are from my town. My mum teaches at the school the boy goes to. Everyone is rallying support outside of our town but no one here likes that family. The son has cost the school thousands upon thousands of dollars because he’ll randomly smash a window or something. He doesn’t belong in regular public school where he is. He needs to go to the special school.
The only reason we need him is because the dad is a doctor who allows med students to come here.
I’m not saying we should deport him but I think this another case of the media getting carried away. The dad is trying to milk it.

Hi guys, thanks once again for another awesome show! As someone who never used to be very interested in the news, you really help me keep uo with what’s going on in the world. I also want to thank Elysa for letting me know how to help concerning the Darfour situation – I’ll certainly being doing as many things on that list as possible!!
You guys provide a podcast that’s unique, intelligent and freaking hilarious – THANKYOU!! <3

I have been a huge fan of all of you in the early days of Imprint. I am very happy that the good times just keep on coming. I often crack up at my desk and recieve a few good looks from coworkers while listening to your show.
I wanted to comment on your discussion about Twitter. Twitter made me fall in love with my cell phone all over again. I dont consider myself a nosey person but it is a blast to know what everyone is doing. I often wake up in the morning and dash to my phone to see what Matt, Andrew, Laura, and Penny did last night.
Twitter and Seleb’s. I felt this was the first time there was a good discussion about the celebs. I have been many of there friends and left them because they are here for the wrong reasons. The reason that people like myself are friends with them is because we want to compare our daily lives with theirs. If I wanted to know how there charity is doing or I wanted to see them soon I would serch the internet. Finaly, on your show this was addressed.
facebook and twitter.
I dont care if facebook has fixed its layout. I will never use facebook the way that I use twitter and dont plan on changing. Facebook will always be what it was made for, to find and keep in touch with people you know. They can change as much as they would like but will never be able to change the way members use the website.
keep on tweeting

I defintely took their advice about Twitter and who’s the best to follow. I just joined it and I had NO IDEA how to work it, so they definitely helped alot!!

Here, here! I even looked at Ashton Kutcher’s page to see how annoying he is… Yeah, I know (why?). It’s just like his Facebook and MySpace… and it’s irritating.
XD
I’ve fallen in love with Twitter too since I’ve got mine… It’s also a fantastic procrastination tool.
March 29th, 2009 on 3:12 AM
outofyoghurt,
Thanks for the input. I do agree with you. He needs to be put into a special school or at least away from the other kids if he is violent and unpredictable. As for the doctor he shouldn’t be deported just because his son has a disability.

Hey Smart Mouths. I just found a really, really strange article/blog. A lady apparently found her college date rapist in the “people you might know” feature on Facebook. I know its a serious subject but WTF?

Wow. Hey Smart Mouths I found another strange article. A kid pains a giant penis on the roof of his parent’s expensive house to get noticed by Google Earth.
